Sunscreen For The Face Protection: 6 Facts And Tips

It’s the time of year when the sun gets stronger, you spend more time outdoors, and using sunscreen for the face becomes more critical to your everyday life. Having that said, there are some facts, especially about sunscreen for oily skin.

Let us tell you a few sunscreen facts and tips.

You Need to Wear Sunscreen Every Day

Absolutely yes. Dermatologists across the world recommend choosing from a range of broad-spectrum best sunscreens in India every day. While sun damage is a considerable risk during the hot summer months, the sun emits harmful UVA and UVB rays throughout the year. According to the World Health organization, sun damage can also occur even when the sun is not shining. Up to 80% of the sun's harmful UV rays can penetrate deeper into your skin on cloudy days as well.

Sunscreen Ingredients Matter

Most sunscreens contain a combination of 16 active ingredients. The investigation by Food and Drug Administration reported that two ingredients, namely zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, are recognized as safe and effective. The other two ingredients, namely PABA and trolamine salicylate, were identified as unsafe and were banned in non-prescription sunscreens. The remaining 12 chemical ingredients- avobenzone, oxybenzone, dioxybenzone, sulisobenzone, octocrylene, octisalate, octinoxate, ensulizole, meradimate, homosalate, padimate O, and cinoxate are still being examined.

Physical sunscreens are different from chemical Sunscreens

Physical sunscreens only contain zinc oxide and titanium oxide as they sit on the skin and deflect sun rays. This is why many people refer to them as sunblock. Physical sunscreens are advised for people with sensitive skin. On the other hand, chemical sunscreens absorb the sun’s rays, so they do not penetrate the skin. Chemical sunscreens are easy to rub on the skin and do not leave a white cast.

Adding two sunscreen products with different SPFs

Using two products with different SPFs will absolutely not give you higher SPF. For instance, SPF 30 and SPF 15 are not equal to SPF 45. The higher SPF of the two sunscreen products would be the amount of sun protection applied on your skin, which in this case would be 30.

Will you be deficient in vitamin D by wearing sunscreen every day?

The answer for most people is no. Most people go outside for short periods without sun protection, whether it is watering the plants or walking to the car. This limited exposure to the sun is enough to obtain the vitamin D you need. People at risk of vitamin D deficiency have to be strict about sun avoidance for medical reasons. If you believe you have vitamin D deficiency or low vitamin D, consult your physician for a supplement.

We suppose we have covered some of the most critical questions about sunscreen for the face.
